New Language, New Connections – Try Chinese!
Why not expand your horizons by attempting to learn a new language, with a trained teacher! Unlock the world of Chinese language and culture with Chinese language classes offered by Stonnington Community Uniting Church in Malvern East. You will be welcome to come and give it a go. No previous knowledge of Chinese is required! Just an open mind!
Why learn Chinese 汉语?
Learning a foreign language expands our horizons, exercises our brains, and develops our empathy towards people of a different culture. It is not only acquiring a means of direct communication in speech and writing. Most of us have learned to use chopsticks as part of our intercultural journeys. The next step might be to learn some Chinese characters as a major part of Chinese culture. As a tonal language, Chinese is of course challenging, but we can do it!
After all, learning is a healthy brain’s best friend. Spending time gaining new skills, including a language, can boost brain neuroplasticity — the ability to grow, change, make new connections, and function in a new way. Language learning can change our brains and help slow cognitive decline!
Our Trained Instructor
The instructor is Mr Zhuoran Wei, a native speaker who trained in teaching Chinese as a Second Language in his undergraduate degree in China. Zhuoran is currently undertaking a Masters in Media and Communication at Monash University.
More about the Classes
These ground-breaking Chinese Language classes will start with a 4-week trial program on November 21st, 2025 at the Stonnington Community Uniting Church in Malvern East.
The classes will include learning about Chinese culture and society and FOOD!
